Laparoscopic cholecystectomy

It is a surgical operation in which the gallbladder is removed, which is a pear-shaped organ located just below the liver on the upper right side of the abdomen. The gallbladder collects and stores digestive fluids that are produced in the liver.

Its removal is a common and not dangerous operation where the patient can go home the same day, and it is done by inserting a small video camera through four incisions in the so-called laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Reasons for performing laparoscopic cholecystectomy:

Cholecystectomy is performed if the patient has :

  • Stones in the gallbladder.
  • Stones in the gallbladder duct (bile duct).
  • Inflammation of the biliary vesicle.
  • Large gallbladder polyps.
  • Inflammation of the pancreas due to gallstones.

Procedures that are taken before cholecystectomy:

  • Perform a blood test and find out the patient’s medical condition.
  • Avoid smoking.
  • Avoid taking blood thinning medications such as arthritis medications.
  • Analysis of urine.

Tips after laparoscopic cholecystectomy:

  • Do not lift heavy objects.
  • Walk daily to prevent blood clots.
  • Take care of wound hygiene.
  • Take the medications that the doctor prescribed.
  • Eat foods that contain fiber to promote bowel movement.
